Staten Island has more roof per house than most of the city. It's mostly detached and semi-attached homes, a lot of them on hills, and the roofs range from steep Victorian slopes on the North Shore to the newer townhouse rows down by Tottenville. REVMA Roofing is based in Bayside, and I'm Stavros Latos, the owner. I come to every Staten Island estimate myself, so you deal with me from the first look at the roof to the final walk-through.
Staten Island Neighborhoods We Serve
We take roof replacements all over the island: the North Shore, including St. George, New Brighton, Stapleton, Port Richmond and Westerleigh; Mid-Island, including Todt Hill, Dongan Hills, New Dorp, Grant City and Midland Beach; and the South Shore, including Great Kills, Eltingville, Annadale, Huguenot and Tottenville. The full list is below.
A Victorian in Stapleton and a split-level in Great Kills don't have much in common except the borough, so I look at the house first and then we talk material, access and scope.
What Actually Damages Staten Island Roofs
On the East and South Shores it's the water. Midland Beach, New Dorp Beach, Oakwood and Tottenville sit right on the Lower Bay and Raritan Bay, and nor'easters push wind and rain sideways off the water. Shingle roofs fail at the edges first, so the starter strip, the drip edge and the ridge have to be done right, and the ice and water shield goes in the valleys and along the eaves.
On the North Shore and the hills it's age and the roof lines. A lot of the older houses in St. George, New Brighton and Stapleton have steep pitches, dormers and turrets, and every one of those intersections is flashing that has to be done right. Up on Todt Hill and Emerson Hill the big detached houses have long valleys and mature trees dropping leaves into them every fall. Add freeze and thaw all winter, and a small gap turns into a leak. Most shingle roofs need real attention somewhere around 18 to 22 years.
St. George, Todt Hill and the South Shore: A Few Specifics
St. George and New Brighton have older houses, and parts of them sit in a designated historic district, so visible roof work there also goes through Landmarks Preservation Commission review. We plan for that before any material is ordered. Todt Hill and Emerson Hill are mostly big detached houses with complicated roof lines, where slate, cedar and composite come up as much as shingle. On the South Shore, a lot of the houses are newer, so the conversation is usually a straight tear-off and a new shingle system built for the wind off the bay.
Staten Island Roofing FAQ
Who is the best roofing company on Staten Island?
Look at who comes to the estimate and how clearly they explain the job. We have 64 Google reviews at 5.0, and I handle every estimate myself. Then compare written quotes for the same roofing system.
How much does a roof replacement cost on Staten Island?
Architectural shingles run about $875 to $1,100 a square installed, so a 20-square roof is around $17,500 to $22,000. Detached houses with bigger roofs run more. Our roof cost guide has the full breakdown, and the same pricing applies on Staten Island.

No. You get one price for the scope we agree on, in writing, and you take the time you need.
Why Staten Island Homeowners Choose REVMA
You deal with me, the owner, start to finish. No three-prices routine and no "sign tonight" discount. You get one written price, and because I don't carry big-company overhead it usually comes in 25 to 35% less than the big companies. Bring a competitor's written quote for the same roofing system and we'll price match it. Our crews have 15 to 20 years on roofs, we're GAF certified, and we strip every roof down to the deck so nothing gets hidden under a new layer.
For the full process, see our roof replacement page. We also install asphalt shingle, slate, cedar and composite roofs across Staten Island.
