I'll be honest with you about Willets Point. It's the Iron Triangle, the strip east of Citi Field between Northern Boulevard, Roosevelt Avenue and the Flushing River, and for decades it was auto shops and scrap yards, not houses. Right now it's a construction site. The city is building affordable apartment buildings and the new soccer stadium, Etihad Park. None of that is a shingle roof on a house, so it's not my kind of job. Where I can help is the houses right around it: the one- and two-family homes in Corona to the west, and across the river in Flushing. I'm Stavros Latos, the owner of REVMA Roofing, and I come to every estimate myself.
Homes Near Willets Point We Serve
For houses, we work the Corona blocks west of Citi Field and 126th Street, and the house sections of Flushing on the other side of the Flushing River. The ZIP code here is 11368, the same as Corona. From our shop in Bayside, it's straight down Northern Boulevard.
The Corona side is tight. The houses are close together, many are attached or semi-detached, and there's rarely a driveway big enough for a container. On game days around Citi Field, parking is worse. So we plan the staging and the schedule before you get a price, not the morning of the job.
What Actually Damages Roofs Around Willets Point
This whole area is low ground near the water. Willets Point itself was wetland and ash fill, and it's known for flooding in heavy rain. For the houses nearby, that means wind coming off Flushing Bay and a lot of wet weather. Wind lifts the edges of a shingle roof first, so the starter course and the drip edge matter.
On attached houses, the bigger problem is the party line. When one owner redoes a roof and the neighbor doesn't, the joint between them is where the water gets in, especially if somebody just smeared tar over it. That seam needs real flashing and a proper tie-in.
Insurance Claims Near Willets Point: How We Approach Them
If a storm damages your roof, here's what we do: we document the damage with photos, we meet the adjuster at the house, and we repair what's covered. We're the roofing contractor, so we don't negotiate your claim or speak for you with the carrier. Under New York Insurance Law §2101(g)(2), that's for you or a licensed public adjuster.
We file for storm damage, not wear. If the roof is just old, I'll tell you.
Corona, 126th Street and Across the Flushing River: A Few Specifics
In Corona, it's mostly attached and semi-detached brick two-family houses, where the shared roof line and the neighbor conversation come first. Near 126th Street, it's construction traffic right now, so deliveries get timed around it. Across the river in Flushing, the houses are older and bigger, with more layers to strip. See our Flushing page for that side.
Willets Point Roofing FAQ
Do you work on the new Willets Point buildings?
No. The new apartments and the stadium are large commercial projects. We replace roofs on one- and two-family houses nearby.
How much does a new roof cost on a Corona two-family house?
It depends on the size, the layers and the deck. I look at it in person and you get one written price. Our Queens roof cost guide explains what moves it.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in 11368?
Under 1 RCNY §101-14, replacing coverings and insulation above the deck doesn't need a DOB permit unless the Energy Code requires added insulation. Replacing deck or sheathing does, and we file it with DOB when it's required.
Can you do my side of an attached roof only?
Yes. We replace your side and flash the line to your neighbor's roof properly. I talk to them before tear-off.
Shingle Roofs on the Houses Near Willets Point
Where the houses around here have a pitched roof, we put on architectural shingles over a stripped and checked deck, with ice and water shield at the eaves and valleys, new drip edge and new flashing at the walls. See shingle roofing and roof replacement for how the job runs.
Why Homeowners Near Willets Point Choose REVMA
You get the owner, not a salesman, and one written price, not three. Without the big-company overhead, we usually come in 25 to 35% under them, and we'll match a competitor's written quote for the same roofing system. Our crews have 15 to 20 years on roofs, we're GAF certified, three to five sheets of plywood are included, and the work carries our workmanship warranty. For the rest of the borough, see our Queens page.
