Little Neck is the last stop in Queens before Nassau County, and it feels like it. It's quiet, it's green, and the houses were mostly built between the 1920s and the 1960s: Cape Cods, Tudor Revivals, brick Colonials, ranches and split-levels, with some newer rebuilds mixed in. That means most roofs here are asphalt shingle on a house that's had at least one replacement already. I'm Stavros Latos, the owner of REVMA Roofing. We're based a few minutes away in Bayside, and I come out to every estimate myself.
Little Neck Neighborhoods We Serve Every Week
We work from Little Neck Bay and Udalls Cove in the north down to the Grand Central Parkway, and from Marathon Parkway and Little Neck Parkway east to the Nassau line: Westmoreland, Little Neck Hills, Little Neck Pines, the blocks along Northern Boulevard, and the streets around the Little Neck LIRR station. Our Little Neck ZIP codes are 11362 and 11363.
Most Little Neck houses are detached with a driveway, which makes staging easier than in a lot of Queens. On split-levels and ranches with low eaves, we still plan where the material comes up and where the tear-off goes down, so we don't wreck your shrubs or your gutters.
What Actually Damages Little Neck Roofs
North of Northern Boulevard, the land slopes down toward Little Neck Bay and the wetlands at Udalls Cove. Houses up on that slope get wind coming off the water and up the hill, and that's the kind of wind that peels shingles at the rakes and the ridge. South of Northern, it's the trees. The blocks are leafy, so the valleys and gutters pack up every fall, and water backs up under the shingles.
The roof shapes matter here too. Split-levels have several roof sections meeting at different heights, and every one of those meeting points is a wall flashing detail. Ranches have long, low-slope runs where water moves slowly. Capes have dormers. On Little Neck houses, those joints are where I find the leaks, not the middle of the roof.
Insurance Claims in Little Neck: How We Approach Them
If a storm takes shingles or a tree comes down on your house, we do three things: we document the damage with photos, we meet the adjuster on the roof, and we repair what's covered. We're the roofing contractor, so we don't negotiate your claim or speak for you with the carrier. Under New York Insurance Law §2101(g)(2), that's for you or a licensed public adjuster.
We file for storm damage, not wear. If your roof is just old, I'll tell you that and give you one price to replace it.
Westmoreland, Little Neck Hills and Udalls Cove: A Few Specifics
Westmoreland is one of the older sections, and its older houses tend to have steeper roofs and dormers, so the step flashing and the valleys get most of my attention. Little Neck Hills, south of Northern Boulevard, is hilly with larger homes winding up the slopes, which means more exposure on the high side, longer ladder setups and a staging plan that works on a grade. On the postwar Capes, ranches and split-levels around the neighborhood, the shingles are usually on their second or third replacement, so it's a full tear-off and a close check of the plywood. Near Udalls Cove and the bay, the houses take the wind off the water, and the edges, the drip edge and the nailing are where the job is won.
Little Neck Roofing FAQ
My split-level has roofs at three different heights. Is that a problem?
It's more work, not a problem. Every place a lower roof meets a wall needs step flashing and counter flashing done right, and that's where we spend the time.
How much does a new roof cost in Little Neck?
It depends on the size, the shape and what's under the old shingles. Our Queens roof cost guide covers the factors, and you get one written price after I've been on the roof.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Little Neck?
Under 1 RCNY §101-14, replacing coverings and insulation above the deck doesn't need a DOB permit unless the Energy Code requires added insulation. Replacing deck or sheathing does, and when it does, we file it with DOB.
Do you work on the Nassau side too?
Yes, we do Long Island jobs too. This page is about the Queens side, but if you're just over the line in Great Neck, call anyway.
How long does a roof replacement take in Little Neck?
Most shingle roofs are done in one day, sometimes two on a bigger house. You get the schedule in writing with the price.
Shingle Roofing in Little Neck
Little Neck is mostly shingle, and the system is what counts: ice and water shield in the valleys and at the eaves, a synthetic underlayment, new drip edge, and ridge venting that works with the intake at the soffits so the attic doesn't trap heat and moisture. Some of the older Tudors have slate or cedar, and we do those too. See our shingle roofing, slate roofing and roof replacement pages.
Why Little Neck Homeowners Choose REVMA
You deal with me, the owner. No salesman, no three prices, no "sign tonight" discount. You get one written price for the work we agree on, and it usually comes in 25 to 35% less than the big companies because I don't carry their overhead. Bring a competitor's written quote for the same roofing system and we'll price match it. Our crews have 15 to 20 years on roofs, we're GAF certified, three to five sheets of plywood are already in the price, and every job carries our workmanship warranty.
