The building stock
Scarsdale, Bronxville, Rye and Larchmont carry estate and near-estate homes with slate roofs, copper valleys and standing-seam copper on bays and porch roofs. New Rochelle, White Plains and Yonkers add a large stock of 1920s to 1950s Colonials and Tudors. On these roofs the flashing, valley and chimney detailing is a larger part of the work than the field material.
Permits and approvals
Like Nassau, Westchester permits at the municipality level — each city, town and village runs its own building department. Bronxville and parts of Scarsdale and Rye apply architectural review that restricts material and colour. Historic properties may need additional sign-off. We confirm the requirements for the specific address before quoting, because the lead time varies more here than the price does.
Weather and exposure
Westchester gets materially more snow than the coastal markets, so ice damming at the eaves is the dominant winter failure. Roofs with low-slope porch returns and complex valleys are the ones that leak. Ventilation and eave protection carry more weight in a Westchester specification than they do in Brooklyn or Queens.
